This will be Ladies Learn to Ride a Motorcycle’s third successful annual event. It has grown exponentially since its inception in 2020. This year saw Motul once again teaming up with Honda Wing South Africa and the ADA Training & Outdoor Centre to offer even more women the experience of a lifetime – learning from the experts how to ride a motorcycle. “It has been quite the rewarding journey watching more and more women turn up every year to learn how to ride a motorcycle. They especially enjoy the independence, freedom and power that learning how to handle a motorcycle offers. The incredible growth of the event has proven to us that this is what women want,” commented Mercia Jansen, Motul Area Manager for Southern and Eastern Africa and the Indian Ocean.
This year, the Ladies Learn to Ride a Motorcycle event kicked off at 8am on Saturday 10th September and saw a record number of women registering in the morning, some had never ridden a bike before, and others had a little experience but wanted to learn how to master the machine.
Women arrived from all walks of life. Some arrived alone while others arrived with their partners and children who came to cheer them on. After registering, the women were split up into beginner, intermediate and advanced groups and were given hands-on training from the experts on handling various off-road and on-road models of Honda motorcycles. The training took place in a safe and fun environment where the women could really lean into the experience without ever feeling intimidated. “It was lovely to see the women grow more confident while their men cheered them on from the side lines. There was loads of camaraderie and support,” said Jansen.
Absolutely everyone was catered for. So, while mom was learning to handle Honda motorcycles like a pro, the kids had fun playing in the Motul pedal cars. A delicious lunch was served, and the adult guests were treated to the most fabulous gins at the gin-tasting bar.
Every year the Ladies Learn to Ride a Motorcycle event receives amazing feedback from the participants and this year was no exception. Lyn Pringle said, “Thank you to Motul and ADA for an amazing Ladies Learn to Ride day. What a great opportunity to ride on multiple Honda bikes all while being taught amazing skills by patient instructors.” And, Nicole Currin commented, “Being a newbie can be intimidating, but we were made to feel comfortable and really gained confidence throughout the day. I will definitely join on another course hosted by ADA Training Centre, Motul and Honda. The staff were all really friendly and helpful. Thank you to everybody for the good vibes and a safe learning space for us ladies.”
In fact, the incredible turnout and feedback has Motul thinking about creating not one but two events in 2023. “In order to meet the popularity of the event and its growing demand, creating two Ladies Learn to Ride a Motorcycle events is very much on the cards,” Jansen said.
By hosting two events Motul will be able to accommodate the growing demand and can continue to keep the numbers manageable to give all the participating women the opportunity to receive the necessary training while getting more than enough time to practice what they learn.
Ladies Learn to Ride a Motorcycle’s magic mix of expert training, equipment and support allowed all the participants to relax into a thrilling and memorable experience. Long may their motorcycling journey continue.
