After \u00a0heavy overnight rain, <\/span>the organisers of the \u201cMother of Hard Enduro\u201d took <\/span>the decision to adjust the routes to <\/span>limit and<\/span>,<\/span> where possible<\/span>,<\/span> avoid <\/span>swollen <\/span>and impassable <\/span>mountain rivers<\/span>. <\/span>Depending on the class, this involved the routes<\/span> for Day 2<\/span> being shortened by between 50<\/span>km<\/span> and 90km. <\/span><\/p>\n

The shorter<\/span>–<\/span>than<\/span>–<\/span>expected <\/span>day for the <\/span>Gold Class <\/span>riders <\/span>was not without its share of drama. <\/span>With no other way around, t<\/span>he first to attempt<\/span> a major river crossing was <\/span>Mani Lettenbichler (<\/span>Red Bull <\/span>KTM <\/span>Factory Racing<\/span>)<\/span> who succeeded only in <\/span>drowning his bike, and <\/span>then had <\/span>to <\/span>watch as his rivals left him on the riverbank<\/span> while he dr<\/span>ained <\/span>the <\/span>water<\/span> out <\/span>of <\/span>his<\/span> motor.<\/span><\/p>\n

However, a<\/span>ssertive riding by Lettenbichler saw him catch up to the <\/span>leading riders before they reached the revised finish line at the DSP. On <\/span>one of <\/span>the final downhill<\/span>s<\/span>, <\/span>Wade Young <\/span>(Sherco Racing Factory Team powered by Motul<\/span>)<\/span> pulled away to establish a slight <\/span>advantage over Lettenbichler and <\/span>Travis Teasdale <\/span>(ASP Rope <\/span>Mc<\/span>l<\/span>arens<\/span> Racing). The<\/span>se<\/span> two rivals locked wheels (as well as horns) just as they crossed the line<\/span>coming into the DSP<\/span>,<\/span> to highlight how close the racing was today<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n

This extreme competitiveness has set the tone for tomorrow\u2019s deciding stage, with three <\/span>current <\/span>C<\/span>hampions<\/span> in Enduro racing going head-to-head for the <\/span>ultimate prize. <\/span>According to the provisional results, d<\/span>efending Roof Champion<\/span> Wade Young <\/span>holds the lead, but with FIM Hard Enduro World Champion Lettenbichler <\/span>only<\/span> two minutes behind<\/span> and <\/span>just<\/span> a single second separating the <\/span>German rider from<\/span> SA Extreme Enduro Champion,<\/span> Teasdale in third<\/span>, there is everything to ride for tomorrow<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n

The first Silver Class rider to cross the line, Austin Stuart<\/span>(Orange Country KTM), <\/span>has <\/span>built up a potentially commanding lead of some 23 minutes over second-placed <\/span>Daniel Schr\u00f6der (Motorex Alfie Cox KTM), with Schroder\u2019s teammate Luke Walker completing the podium line-up.<\/p>\n

Tate Str\u00f6h (Yamaha) is the current leader of the pack in the Bronze Class, with Stiaan Potgieter (Husqvarna) 16 minutes behind and Corbin Pape (KTM) a further 7 minutes back.<\/p>\n

\u201cHaving seen the state of the river<\/span> crossings on the original route for today, I erred on the side of caution and made some last-minute adjustment<\/span>s<\/span> to the <\/span>routes<\/span>,\u201d explained Charan Moore, Roof Race Director and Founder of Live Lesotho. \u201c<\/span>We wanted to make sure that we stayed true to the spirit of t<\/span>he Roof<\/span>, kept all the riders safe, and<\/span> still<\/span> gave the fans t<\/span>he Enduro action <\/span>they\u2019ve come to expect<\/span>,<\/span>\u201d <\/span>he added. <\/span><\/p>\n

Moore went on to confirm that <\/span>the final day<\/span> will be a short, s<\/span>teep<\/span> route<\/span>, with plenty of <\/span>no holds barred <\/span>ascending and descending<\/span> \u2013 ideal for determining which of the three <\/span>Champions<\/span> on the Gold Class podium will <\/span>be crowned <\/span>K<\/span>ing of the <\/span>M<\/span>a<\/span>loti M<\/span>ountains. T<\/span>he stage is set for <\/span>a nail-biting Roof showdown<\/span> for tomorrow\u2019s final stage<\/span>. <\/span><\/p>\n
